Baseball Cap

Written by Jack Miller

Protection form the sun
That's how you got here
Hold my flip-down shades
Ego crown

Gold star, royal name
Some killer animal
Or ancient warrior
Embossed
Egg sized emblem

Sun bleached emerald green bill
More precious than the king's own crown
Sacred and divine
Most prized possession
Name regal team
Give us identity
Which monarchy do you play for?
Not from a distance
Not who we want to be
Who we ARE

Tough as sailor's cloth
Smooth as a meadow's floor
Soft worn comfort beyond reproach
Friend when alone
Green cable runs up to magic button on top
Along with earned dirt of head long slides
One size doesn't fit all
Ego crown

Never a thought about the day you wouldn't fit
Go too small with the passing of the seasons
Cardboard peeks out like a turtle from his shell
Manufacturer long since faded
Team never forgotten
Victory and loss a blur
But not the homerun nor strikeout

Strapped, open gap in front
Leads the way to nowhere
Brand new and never caught a fly ball
Off the shelf one size fits all
Wanna be with wanna be hat
It's called a baseball cap for a reason
And the bill goes in front unless you're a catcher
