Salt

Written by Zach Shaw

I remember the kicking in my heart best
Sinking into your earth with every breath
        I remember the rain
        (I'm here behind you)
        It's raining again
        Deep in my mind
It pours through my courage and holds my heart inside
I remember the beating of your sickness
Such skill to take the most and turn it to less
        I remember the rain
        Like my sides
        (Wrapped around you)
There's a hole in my head
        You used to live there
        In my bed
        In my confidence
        You used to live here
        Under my feet
        Inside my veins
        Loving my bitter
        On top of my sweet
        But I remember the rain
Licking away the pain in my tears
(You used to rain on me, Rain on me)
Can you taste the salt of my tears?

Is it in me?
Eating it's way through
Teasing my integrity
Washing my triumph blue
        I remember the rain
        Sick as it is
        I remember you
        Your skin
        Your kiss
You used to rain on me
        Please rain on me
Are you inside aching?
Has it followed you here?
Do you feel its constant bleeding
Swallowed with each tear?
Smell its victory waking
Taste the salt of my fear
        I feel the rain
        Tearing me down again
        Did it ever go away?
        Did it die?
        Is it with you
        Shaking you
        In the empty space
        Far from me
        Inside the night's eyes?
        Do you remember the rain?
(I used to rain on you, Rain on me)
Taste it, the rain remembers you

Wash the salt into nothing
Take these desperate fears
Annihilate my consciousness
        Rain on me
        With your tears
