If Only

If only you would

Come with me into the darkness

To a place so peaceful with chaos

That the shadows seethe a tranquil air

            Which fills our chests

            Replaces wasted breath

So much like death

            Still we lie

Passion pools in the corners of our minds

Pushed aside by our inner-rays

I wish you would touch me

With your dusty skin

            Muddied by sweat and tears

            Tinged with blood

I need your pain

            Inflict it on me

With the steely point of your dagger

            Against my ribs

Cold, damp grass matted against my bare skin

Rolling and tumbling over the one and other

In the heat and convulsions of ecstasy

We gulp great gasps of air

In moments when tongues and lips aren’t touching

Trying in vain to resist the immense pulling

            Of the flames

            Like the moth—

If only we could deny this feeling

            Repress the fear and pain

Or the hunger that devours our ability to see

Anything but the lust we are feeling

If only the world would end

And they could see without blinders

            The uniqueness of our desire

            Feel the longing

If only they would wither away

            Like pages in the flames

Rising ashes covering the jealous sun

Leaving room for

            Our rage

            Our souls

            Our screams

            Our silence

If only you would come—
