The Trip

Jennifer Paige©1994

Who the hell are you?
My voice is deep and raspy
Your face is distorted, but I feel a strong
    Connection
Your eyes are wide
Yellow and green
Flashes blare
Making me nauseous
I like it--or I hate it
Stop moving!
    Oh, it's me
I'm trembling
Burning and freezing
Enslaved but free
Whatever happened to gravity?
Weightless and lethargic
I wander through my own Odyssey
Face first into coarse brown and orange plaid
    Spinning through the pattern
Weaving it into myself
Look at the ceiling
A thousand maggots making one of those
    "Have a Nice Day" faces
Don't worry, I will
Back and forth between reality and the reality my mind creates
A sensation flows like honey through my veins
    Slowly--
Not slow enough
Running tepid, thick and sticky
A rancid stench enters my nostrils
And I lay in a pool of red blood
    Close my eyes
Go to my own colorful paradise
But it's really cold in hell
