Lavender Sense

Jennifer Paige©1995

The will ‘o the whisp

Of lavender wood smoke

And a red glowing ember in the dark

Two candles side by bedside

And the rose on the ceiling

Is the room that I stay in tonight

            Had I sense

            I’d be outside

            Stargazing

            Moon-bathing

            Love-craving

            Seeing the sky grow hazy

            At dawn

But I keep to my ceiling, four walls and a floor

Praying nobody opens the door…

I wonder where love is tonight

Is it home all-alone

Wondering the same of his love in the dark

Staring up at the white tiled ceiling

And hearing laughter through the vents

In the room that he stays in tonight

            If he had sense enough

            He’d be here

            Just gazing

            Sweat bathing

            Here craving

The touch of my skin drives him crazy

            At dawn

Here in my cell, walls, ceiling, and floor

Hoping one of us locked the door
