Luna Aquaeous

Penning useless words

To beautiful melodies

Incense smoldering in the background

While outside the platinum moon slips through low cirrus clouds

Hanging in the air like the long smoky fingers

            Climbing up my green-roomed walls

Here I lay pondering patterns in the ceiling

And thinking about you

So far away

Perhaps at the beach,

Santa Barbara’s nice this time of year

I feel I’ve known you forever

Connected through music and lines

            And water

 Maybe you’re at the beach

Strumming chords on the Ovation I bought you for your birthday

Could have been happier if given the time

Our troubles were small

But our stubborn egos equally power-hungry

            Independence won out

I can hear the waves crashing through your ears

The salty wind caresses me when it blows through your hair

Grainy sand clinging to our feet

            Listen—

Two kinetic souls cannot hide form the truth

We belong to the water if not to each other

Listen to the tide

Feel it pull your spirit to mine

Though it will take the phases of the moon

To cease seeking shelter

If you would look up at the moon,

            The moon above us

I might see your reflection
