Rainy Matinee

Jennifer Paige©1995

Chasing the jumping frog on a misty Monday

Green jeweled flesh always exceeding my grimy hands

Why is the morning always proceeded by the afternoon?

The sweltering heat torching brittle Earth in fiery frenzy

And burning feet scream for shade

Until the clouds come home

Smothering the sun’s fury and bringing the silvery, wispy rain

Suddenly my clothes are clinging to my skin

And the light is now an unsteady strobe

As I stand in the yard while the tears of

Allah wash me clean

The trees swing form side to side with the cooling wind

I feel light as the leaves which whip around my feet

My flesh is now slick and sparkling like this morning’s frog

And the film rolls on…
