Respect for the Dead
Jennifer Paige©1995
To
see the withering grass and sage curl under the feet of a thousand winds
To
feel
The
earth sinks like moon dust
So
soft inside its core
And
the remains of the day are filled with the laughter of reunion
The
tears of missing the Lost Ones
The
same people
Tonight
in the sky hangs a sliver of moon
Accompanied
by two bright stars
Possibly
the twin souls of the dead
And
in respect
Bowing
our heads as we pass overhead
And
somehow the laughter seems feigned even in memory
So
perfectly straight are the streaks from the tears
Like
gravestones in memoriam
And
to see them on his face
In his eyes
Is
sorrow
