Winter

The winter sky

Mirrored in your icy tears

Your eyes—

Taken in by their chocolate depth

Drowning

And your sun never shined through hazy morning rain

Sometimes I feel I’ve never been so cold

And still I’ve never been so warm

Beside you

Things seem to repeat themselves in my mind

And I’m lost for eternity

In a world so desperately familiar

I swear I must have known you before

A long, long time ago

The perennial grass is withered and dying

The time for neglect begins again

And winter’s thick, foggy blanket

Cannot block out the fear of the spring

The eyes rushing torrents

Melt the runoff

Feel it gently trickle down like frost flakes

In the snow
