God

I thought I knew what love was

Sitting in church that Sunday morning

Your light shining down on me

A halo of my own

Your betrayal was right on time

You knew all along that you’d laugh alone

Now in this whirlwind of song and joy

They praise your name

Writhing in your glory

But I’m hiding in the back

In the shadows of your disgrace

Silently despising your disciples

Those lost little sheep

So misled

And into the great raving of false hope and the illusion of redemption

Jilted by your serpent tongue

Your profane word

Saintly and hallowed

Holy

Thought I knew what love was

Dragging behind but always knowing you’re there

Closer and closer to His

Closer to His Right Hand Man

All the promises you’ll never keep

You knew all along that you’d stand-alone

Here in the Panic

They curse your name

Writhing in flame and brimstone

I’m in the back

Surrounded by light so pale

And shadows so black

Silently redeeming your disciples

All those lost sheep

Seeing the light

The mountain of misty redemption

Quilted by incense clouds

Of philosophy

Sacred and Peaceful
