Bethlehem

Jennifer Paige©1997

“I’ve left Bethlehem.

I feel free.

I’ve left the girl I was supposed to be.”

Today

I was born

Beneath the thousand eyes of heaven

            Which glittered with tears

The light in me manifests above my head

In an aura peaceful and blue

Born of my mother immaculate

            I too am clean

            Pristine

In the bath of angel chorus

            And hay

I left the stable to walk among my

            People

A boy king

The prophet

            On of god

To initiate the masses in a hail of bloodied

            Peace

From my crucifixion

Let me bleed

Let it was away the sins

The imperfections

The details in their faces

Until the are homogenized, pasteurized,

            Monotonized

Bland, dry, and wineless

Without pain or joy

Or the joy of pain
