Cold Comfort

Jennifer Paige©1997

Of all the things I can’t remember

Of all the things I’ve said

I’ve taken on a new meaning

To the demons in my head

Chatter, chatter

All talk, no action

Bring it on then

            Shrink away

The sun at my back

And my tail between my legs

Of all the things I think I know

The ones I though I knew

My heart raced to the East

Sprinted out of view

Leaving me here a cold shell

            Hollow

As fall’s crisp breath tries its damnedest

            To revive me from

The wine’s cold comfort

On the brink of winter’s breath
