Evening
Jennifer Paige©1997
From
a caress of breeze
The
leaves break into song
A
sultry hymn before the rain
The
children scurry inside
Like rats
They
hide form this beauteous storm
The
wind a satin sheet newly lain against my flesh
Cool and continuous
waves
Through the tall grass
Thick and heavy with
wet
From
gray-white clouds
I
fill my lungs with moist mist
From sky and ocean and
land
The
essence of earth fills my chest
And I too begin to sing
From
my perch in the trees
A
harmony to chaos
My
gift and this wind send chills
Through
open windows
With
draped that shudder
To
ears and eyes which cry like raindrops
And
splatter against the windowpanes
