Easter

Every spring the resurrection

            Pain re-lived through ashes

            Never peace

All war is waged at home

            On battlegrounds familiar

            On family and on friends

Sacrifices for the “greater good” never revealed

            Betrayal of the Mother

            The loss of the Son

Together grieve in black shroud

            Rage in separate storms

For the faceless Father never owned

Each spring the cycle renews

            Slash the precious crop

To fashion the crown of thorns

Replace once joyous faces with crying eyes

            And a stone of guilt

Left to tend the plantation of melancholy
