A Mother's Breasts
Jennifer Paige©1998
They
hang abandoned
Barren
Being
pillaged by time
Raped of their bounty
Savaged by the brutes of age
Lost somehow in the rites of passage
From maiden to mother to crone
The
femininity now found there
A pale shadow of what once was
Before
the greedy mouths of
Three lovers
One husband
And three children
Took
from them
The swollen ambrosia of love
Life and
Warmth
Harbored
in the mothering arms and bosom
Now
vacated
Left
to whither alone
Shriveling
to the end of their lives
