Onieros (a dream)

Jennifer Paige©1999

Once, in a dream long ago,

            I held you.

The brevity of that moment was heartening

As in reality I suffered from some type of

            Dream amnesia.

I could not recall your face

            Nor your name.

I could not seek you out.

Only your eyes, remembered,

Which sought me out through dark halls of sleep,

            Peering in curious awe smiling—

            At me?

But when you kissed me

I awoke, as if from a fabled, magickal sleep

            And there, like a dream,

            Were your eyes

Soaring above me on the light sighs

            Of your pleasure.
