Songs 1996-1997

Keep Me Near (1996) is featured on the soundtrack of Comatose Picturez feature film Na Fan Liom, directed by Benn Farrell.  It's co-author, Jason Figueroa, and I were asked to produce a song to cover the end credits of the film.  This would be my first collaboration with another artist and I was excited.  But the process was tedious and frustrating, especially with two stubborn perfectionists such as Jason and myself.   The end result shows none of that and this song was placed at the end of the film as planned; and with raves.  The haunting tune of my melody still lingers long after the last credit disappears off the screen, an accomplishment I am very proud of.  But I really owe the thanks and praise to Benn and Jason.  May their lives be blessed and their enormous talents known.

Paul made his way into my life near the end of my relationship with Jason.   He soon became my lover, what I have endearingly deemed a one month stand.   His deepening homesickness for his family in Arkansas led him to seek solace in his cups.  I thought I could storm them out, all the memories he yearned to relive.   I, instead, became his Enabler.  My love, in the end, was not enough.  We shared some good times and inspired each other with our talent of the written word and a love of music.  But in the end we were only stepping stones to another stage in the other's life.

Our Love isn't my song.  It was written by my friend and fellow musician, Ember.  But I play it sometimes.  I definitely feel her words.  Written for her first girlfriend, Cathy, this song has become an anthem in our circle of friends.  I can think of no better song for it.   It is an amazing piece of music.  I am glad that she has shared it with me and I am proud to play it.
