The Storm

When it rains, I think of you

Standing beneath the tree in my backyard

Lightning dancing accross the mountain range

Breeze through your hair, the sun setting there

     The light reflected in your eyes

     Brighter than the sun itself

Dark hearts of clouds above wore our bruises too

As the storm overtook us, something stirred in me

I somehow felt you shiver, soaked with the chill rain

And I knew you still held me no matter what I said

     Your voice held whispers for me

     Your skin a warmth I'd never knows

Chorus          I still feel each moment

                     Without regret

                     Without repent

                     A kiss in the wind and

                     We blew away

                     Strand by strand

                     Escaping--

                     Breath escaped me

In words left unspoken, I lost you that day

Broken roses withered, bowing goodbye in your wake

Each petal a tear falling without a sound

Haunting me still, they're spirits that rest here

     In the silence of memory

     That was you laughing by my side
