Today
Jennifer Paige©2000
I turned the TV on today to see what the news had to say
Mother Earth has been betrayed once again
Her limbs were cut away then burned to clear the way
For replacements, steel and gray the block the sun
(Another Eden overrun)
But that's okay 'cause there's a hole in the sky
Where the sun gets through just fine, just fine
A little more everyday, everyday
Walking down these city streets people passing look at their feet
And our eyes rarely meet anymore
Are they afraid someone will see that they are incomplete
Or that the lives they lead are empty and alone?
(We're always so alone)
But it's okay to be filled with doubt
To let distrust eat your insides out
We're gonna' die anyway, any day now
There's shouting upstairs at night, the Jones family always fights
But their son's screams don't sit quite right with me
In the morning I will try not to stare at little Billy's fresh black eye
'Cause we are friends and that would be impolite
(Wouldn't want to start a fight)
And it's okay not to get involved
The cops are paid to get it resolved
A million times a day, today
